Jesus has made you a new person

Okay, I am saved Now What?  Sometimes it happens that a person becomes a new Christian and there is no one to guide them to help them through the process. Let’s face it, old habits sometimes die hard.  We have all heard the story, yesterday I was a addict and today I found Jesus and my desire for drugs is gone.  It happens, but for most of us, those old habits; most of us have to go through a process to remove them.  There are programs. But in my Bible study last night the subject came up, why can’t there be a guide?  True the Holy Spirit is there for a guide, but we have not yet learned how to hear our guide. It takes work. We said wouldn’t it be nice if there was a book to tell you what to expect- You know how the evil one will swoop in and try to cause doubt. How Satan will do everything he can to make your life miserable. How you can put on the Armor of God and fight him.  How you can lean on Jesus to fight him.  There are books there are plenty of books we just have to read them.  There is not a book handed to you when you are baptized, except some churches hand out a Bible. Because that is the guide book.  Take for example Colossians 3: 12-17:  tells us that we are the elect of God.  We need to be holy (throw aside the sinful things of our past). We need to be kind ( be nice) Then there is humility and meekness- which means don’t put yourselves above others, and be gentle or kind. We are told to be merciful, when someone irritates you, don’t jump down their throat. But more than anything else show the world the Love of Jesus through you.  12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  No there is not a book that is going to tell you that life as a Christian is going to be hard. There will be hard parts. But we have to keep our eye on the prize Jesus. The more you learn about him- reading His word, and praying to Him, the easier it is to handle those yucky things that will come up. The easier it is to Say he Devil get away, you are not in charge. The more you get to know Jesus, the easier it will be to find peace even when the ocean roars.
