1 Peter 5b-6: Don’t be proud and cast your cares upon Jesus. These verses are warning us against even working closely with people who are proud. Recently I found myself caught up in a training program which promised to teach me how to be a better public speaker and writer. I did learn a few things. I didn’t learn new things, I was reminded of things I had already learned and was forgetting. First I started noticing red flags. They were misquoting scripture. Sure, it was a Bible verse, but the address was wrong or the words were mixed up. A big NO NO! I felt that if I was learning things, I could over look some minor infractions. But then there was the lack of peace. Keeping up with the study was giving me stress, I did not feel peace and every time I watched one of those videos I felt “dear Lord, let me get through this without puking”, another flag. The final warning sign came on one of the inspirational blurbs. It stated that waiting for God is just an excuse. I am thinking okay this is wrong. Waiting for God is the whole point. Then after discussing this with my husband, and sleeping on it, I remembered something from Priscilla Shirer’s books, if you don’t feel peace, It is not from God. I realized I have not been feeling peace but anxiety.
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
